Dr. Marvin D. Slade, born 10th of 12 children to Isaac and Tempy Slade. He grew up in Fresno, California graduating from Edison High School after full participation in student life. He was quite a sportsman: basketball, football, track and field. He sang with the school choir, boys’ chorus and played several instruments while engaging in student body politics.

Dr. Slade holds several degrees: two Bachelors: one in Business Administration, and one in Theology; a Masters in Biblical Studies and a Doctorate in Religious Education

After accepting his calling to the gospel ministry in 1951, Dr. Slade received his license to preach in April 1951 from the late Dr. L. C. Garrett of Fresno, California and was ordained through the Arizona/New Mexico State Convention in October 1959. He pastored several churches and in October 1980, accepted the call to become Pastor of The Good Samaritan Missionary Baptist Church. He has served and continues to serve in many capacities both in the ministry and in city government. He was the first and to this day only Black City Councilman for the City of Tulare, California. His past accomplishments are too numerous to name.

Dr. Slade is the consummate teacher. He does much more than teach the Bible and Christian belief. Through the Word and personal example, he nurtures his flock and teaches them what it means to live for Christ in a practical, daily sense. He walks with Jesus in a total daily life experience.
